It's weird to hear a song here that conveys emotion (in a good way), something I love to hear in music, especially House. The piano and string sections work well together, especially in the intro. The only other thing I have to say is that the sidechain on the synth felt a bit too heavy for my liking, maybe turn the peaking volume down a bit. Otherwise, this is great, keep up the good work ;)

Shoephly responds:

Thanks a lot for the review man, means a lot really! :)

About the sidechaining; I worked on it a really, really long time, with less/more sidechaining, and could never satisfy everyone. So I ended up trying to satisfy myself on that part. xD

Thanks again!

The perfect amount of energy for DnB

You really captured the perfect amount of energy in this song. Heavy, punchy drums, buzzing bass, soft ambience. Only one problem, the pluck got a bit too loud towards the end, not TOO loud, just a bit invasive. This is great :)

pichuscute0 responds:

Yeahh, I know what you mean with the pluck. I need to fix it still. I will probably edit that tonight actually. But thanks alot. :) I appreciate the review and hope ya listen to more of my stuff.

EDIT: I fixed the pluck

Just want to add my two cents

This sounds really good, but as a producer I always hear stuff that I PERSONALLY want to change, not because it doesn't sound good, it's just my own ideas wanting to get out. So here's some tips you MAY (emphasis on the may) want to add to your future productions:

1. Bring out the kick drum - The kick feels very quiet and weak compared to the energy of the rest of the song. Maybe adding a compressor and turning up the post gain?

2. Chord stabs - With a genre like this (Trance\Progressive House maybe?), the song progresses a lot better with a nice defined chord stab leading the song. Using a filter you can build this up throughout the song to create tension and release.

3. Making it just a bit slower - I personally think this would sound a lot nicer if the BPM was a bit slower, 128-135 would be good.

Anyway, take it or leave it, this is really good!

RetromanOMG responds:

You made some really good suggestions, actually. It's ironic that you posted this review, because I've put off uploading it for so long, due to it missing something.

I could mess with band pass filters to get a better effect, and I will change to kicks up a bit. If I can, I'll also make a synth pad to fill out the song more.

As for the BPM, I'm not so sure. That'd probably make it run too long for the tastes of other listeners. Still, thanks for your thoughts.

Perfect

It's good to hear a good instrumental on Newgrounds, something you don't see very often. The beat, while punchy and defines the song, gives room to the rest of the song without invading the space of the other sounds. The samples glide along at their own pace, almost telling a story through short snippets of audio.

The bass drones throughout the duration of the song, filling the lower frequencies without making your ears bleed.

This is perfect, great work. I experimented with instrumentals for a while, needless to say, nothing amazing was produced. This is what I always aspired to make, great work!

DJDureagon responds:

Great Review. Not because you liked my song, because you elaborated on why you liked it and pointed out aspects of the song that worked for you. I wish more people would review liek that on this site. Thanks for the kind words. Ill be sure to check your music out.

Very nostalgic...

I loved playing the Gameboy Color while growing up, especially Zelda. This reminds me a lot of those memories. I like the way the ambient drums and the sine bass blend with the chip lead. The frequencies get a bit crowded toward the main hook of the song, but not too much to worry about. Good luck on that album!

HolyKonni responds:

THank you very much! I actually write music on gameboys aswell :) the album is done, you can get it here: http://holykonni.com/music/earth-chil d-answer-already/

thanks for listening!

Very Relaxing

This is a great track to just sit back and absorb. It sounds a little like William Orbit actually. It would be great to hear a really strong, filtered Industrial drum loop. Good work!

Tulvadar responds:

Thank you. If you have time, listen to my other works. Let me know what do you think.

Sounds alive!

This is really great! It sounds really flowing and lively. What synth did you use for the lead by the way?

EoD696 responds:

Thanks! The instrument is actually a sample of an SH101 synthesizer that I got from Computer Music Magazine, lol. It was on a free disc at the back of the magazine, and I just dropped it in my DAW's sampler and played the parts out on my 61-key controller, mono with a short portamento glide and a fast LFO on the panning. Dropped delay and reverb ontop of that, and voila.

Nearly awesome!

This sounds really good, the lead drives the song nicely. My only gripe is the lack of a strong Trance bass. A good beefy rolling bassline would make this sound even better! Nice work!

FEAST responds:

You cant put a bassline under this. Every instrument has something going on in the bass frequencies already....it would sound muddy. Even the lead has a bass portion of the arp...

Um....

Yeah....

?

Amazing!

I loved it! It's so relaxing, a real nice song to just sit back and digest.

MrMusicalLion responds:
